The Spiritual Meaning of Diamonds: Power in Perfection

When you contemplate the rarity and purity of diamonds (plus the billions of years it takes to make one), it is no surprise that the stones have represented more than just a sparkling accessory over the course of history…

Traditionally seen as a symbol of faithfulness, love, purity, innocence and relationships filled with love, diamonds have been regarded over the centuries as a love-bearing crystal which are ‘dependable in its virtues when received as a gift’ – so it is no surprise that diamonds are used in our engagement rings and wedding bands.

But aside from the obvious choice of the stones as a symbol of a loving relationship, diamonds also hold deeper spiritual meanings thanks to their rarity, purity and brilliance. Formed over billions of years and composed of pure carbon – the foundation of all life in the world around us – diamonds have also been used over the centuries to help open the mind to the new and possible. Believing the illumination and reflection of a diamond will inspire imagination and ingenuity in its wearer, they also bring about strength, fortitude and courage through a diamond’s hardness and ‘invincibility’ having the power to drive away bad energy or fortune.

Derived from the Greek name ‘Adamas’ meaning ‘unbreakable’ or ‘untamable’, and ‘Diaphanus’ meaning transparent, throughout the Millennia diamonds have been used to cleanse our energies and help us shine and sparkle (literally!) making them a vital part of our emotional and physical wellbeing.

Physical Healing

Diamond crystals help to bring together the mind and the body, helping them work together to cleanse and restore your mind, body and soul.

Spiritual Healing

Diamond crystals are the perfect antidote if you are feeling lost or confused, they help cleanse your aura of negative thoughts and bring back the love and light.

Emotional Healing

While diamond crystals will not change your emotions, they will magnify the emotions you are feeling and act as a mirror to your emotional state, which makes it important to wear them with that in mind as they will enhance the positive (but also negative) energies we are feeling.

As someone who really resonates and respects spirituality and the hidden energies that guide and nurture us, it is wonderful to be working with these miracle stones and harnessing their power. But it is not just me: In the east, they place a diamond in a glass of water and drink it in the morning as a heart tonifier; In meditation, wearing a diamond (especially when placed on the Third Eye) brings mental clarity and for many years a picture of a perfect brilliant diamond was used in meditation practice. In Buddhism the diamond is a symbol of pure insight and in the Diamond Sutra, Buddha teaches us to ‘cut through’ delusion to find the pure truth. For Hindus, it is believed the diamond’s vibrations help heal the body’s organs – especially the heart and head.

There really is power in the perfection, and I always like to come back to the famous Persian poet Hafiz who when describing a diamond said; “the rainbow is confined in it forever”. I feel like I see that rainbow everyday and I get to harness that beauty and energy into every NFJ jewellery pieces and take them to another level of promise and possibility.
